12 Axes Test

Political ideology quiz website

A political ideology quiz website, compared

A political ideology quiz website is a place to see your leanings: a party, a left-right line, a compass dot, or a named ideology. This one is 12 Axes Test. It scores twelve political values and does not match you to a candidate. The rows below are different products. Only the last one is ours.

Three reasons people open a political ideology quiz website

Some visitors want a party. They hope the site will name whoever on the ballot sits closest to their answers. That is a voting aid, and it only makes sense inside one country and one election. iSideWith is the best known site that works this way. This page is not that site.

Others want a spectrum: a place on the line from left to right, or a dot on the political compass. Those are summaries. People who agree about taxes often disagree about immigration, trade or religion, and a single line hides the split.

A third group wants an ideology: a name such as social democracy, libertarianism or Christian democracy, with some idea of how close the fit is. An ideology is not a party. The same values can sit near two parties, or near none.

Quiz sites, and the question each one answers

None of these is a scientific instrument. They are useful for different jobs. Read the limit before you treat a label as a fact about yourself.

What this political ideology quiz website adds

12 Axes Test keeps trade, immigration, religion, the military and technology on their own axes. Your place on the left-right line still appears, as the Economy score. Your compass position is drawn from Economy and Power.

The closest ideology is a distance on four axes, Economy, Power, Intervention and Culture, among 38 reference positions. You see the runners-up, not only the first name. The method is published on the methodology page.

There is no account, no email and no advertising. The test, the result and the PDF report are free. Your answers stay in the browser.

Which site to open

A party or candidate
Use a quiz built for your election. iSideWith is the usual one. It is a different product from a values test, and 12 Axes Test is not a stand-in for it.
Two axes
The Political Compass, or the compass view that a 12 Axes result already includes if you also want the other ten scores.
Four values
8values, which you can take on this site in English, Portuguese and Spanish, or on the original project.
Twelve axes
The test on this site. The standard length is 60 statements, about nine minutes. There is a short version of 36 and a full one of 288.

Questions before you start

Which political ideology quiz website should I use?

Use a party quiz if you are choosing a ballot, the Political Compass if you want one dot, 8values if you want four scores, and 12 Axes if you want those questions kept apart. This site is the last of those.

Which result is the most accurate?

None has been validated as a measuring instrument. Longer quizzes move less when one statement is odd, and a published method can be checked. A clear summary of your answers is the honest promise.

Can one quiz tell me both my ideology and my party?

Not reliably. Parties bundle positions that ideologies keep separate, and they change by country and by year. Take a values test for the ideology, and a party quiz for the election you vote in.

Is 12 Axes Test the same as iSideWith or the Political Compass?

No. iSideWith matches parties and candidates. The Political Compass is politicalcompass.org. 8values is a four-value open-source test. 12 Axes Test is independent of all three.

Do I need an account?

No. You can take the test, read the full result and download the PDF without an email address. Scoring happens in your browser.
